Antique WWI Silent Screw Pickets
Screw pickets, used as supports for barbed wire defences were introduced in c.1915 as a replacement for wooden posts. They were quieter to put into place, hence the “silent”. It was the job of the groups of soldiers known as “wiring parties” to go out at night into no man’s land to position them. They then strung barbed wire through the loops to form a defensive wire obstacle as a protection for their trench line.
These antique pieces a piece of world history that should never be forgotten. As a repurposed piece of history they work fantastically as hose holders, a support for light climbers, stakes or simply on their own as garden art.
They are very sturdy and strong.
