English Stone Staddlestone

NZ$1,050.00

Staddlestones are remnants of our agricultural past. Dating from the 17th and 18th centuries. They were carved from local stone and used in farms across England and Northern Spain as practical foundation stones. Keeping wooden granaries and haystacks off the ground to allow air circulation, preventing rot and with the cap also acting as a barrier to vermin trying to gain access to stores.

Today they are found in gardens and often seen lining either side of driveways in rural UK, which is a stunning sight.

These statement pieces of garden art are made from West Country stone from Devon, England. They are not old stone but definitely collectable. They weather beautifully and will last generations.

They are very heavy.

Cap Diameter. 62 cm (does vary a little as handmade)

Base Top. 22 x Bottom. 37 cm
